Dubai: This week, Forty UAE Schools get Together to Promote Poetry

This week’s 13th edition of ‘The Poetic Heart – Connecting Humanity’ will feature student poetry showcases from 40 schools throughout the United Arab Emirates.

The annual conference, organized by SGI-Gulf, is scheduled to take place on February 8 from 9 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. at the Emirates Institute of Finance auditorium in Dubai International Academic City. Its goal is to encourage students’ appreciation of poetry and cross-cultural understanding.

The significance of sustainability is underscored by this year’s theme, “Building a sustainable future together.”

Poetry in Arabic and English will be spoken by the participants, covering topics like friendship, happiness, peace, sustainability, and hope. Among the forty schools involved are renowned institutions such as Manor Hall International School Al Ain, Abu Dhabi Indian School, and Al Diyafah High School.

Prominent poets like Silavana Salmanpur and Dr. Shihab Ghanem will grace the occasion. Recitations of poems by the late Dr. Daisaku Ikeda are among the highlights. In keeping with the theme of diversity, the symposium will also include performances by driven students from organizations such as Manzil and The Al Noor Training Centre.

The SGI-Gulf choir group “Naseem,” which has been a vital component of the Poetic Heart since 2014 and performs songs on topics like peace, friendship, and unbreakable humanity, is another noteworthy feature. According to SGI Gulf Chairperson Suresh Premkumar, the event aims to examine human values through art and culture.
