The United Arab Emirates (UAE) stated on Wednesday that it has successfully mediated another prisoner swap between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Ukraine.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the success of the latest mediation efforts indicates the UAE’s standing as a reliable international partner, particularly with the Russian Federation and the Republic of Ukraine, which has led to the release of prisoners from both sides.
The Ministry conveyed gratitude to the governments of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Ukraine for their assistance and responsiveness to the UAE’s mediation in ensuring the success of the exchange procedure.
The Ministry reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to ongoing efforts to find a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Ukraine, highlighting its steadfast stance in favor of diplomacy, communication, and de-escalation, as well as its efforts to support any and all initiatives that lessen the crisis’s humanitarian consequences.
Significantly, the UAE’s mediation efforts in early January 2024 resulted in the release of inmates from Russia and Ukraine; also, in December 2022, successful mediation efforts resulted in the release and exchange of two prisoners between the Russian Federation and the United States.
