Abu Dhabi Police Modifies Traffic Laws to Permit Some Cars to Pass

It is now possible for large cars to pass in a specific lane on Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed International Street in Abu Dhabi.

The government of Abu Dhabi has approved using the second right lane of Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed International Street from Benona Bridge to Ikad Bridge in both directions for heavy truck overtaking, but solely for that reason.

It is recommended that heavy vehicle operators follow the rules for both their safety and the protection of other drivers. Unless they intend to pass, drivers must stay in the right lane of traffic. Before passing in this situation, the driver should make sure there are no blind spots by glancing in the side mirrors. They then have to start using signals right away. The driver needs to go back into the right lane after passing.

By increasing traffic congestion in the emirate, the decision seeks to enhance the logistic transport sector and improve traffic safety in the United Arab Emirates.
