The UAE experiences relatively short winters; according to the Gulf Heritage Calendar, the season peaks between January 12 and 24. Considering the brief cold snaps the UAE endures, many parents believe purchasing winter uniforms with the school’s logo is a waste of money.
Locals clarified that they search for other ways to keep their kids warm and are concerned about the exorbitant cost of school uniforms. Parents point out that even after spending about Dh2,000 at the beginning of the academic year on uniforms and school supplies, any further expenses do pinch, even though winter clothing may not seem like a financial burden for the family. It was also emphasized that kids will probably outgrow these items by winter next year.
Parents counter that not everything can be purchased secondhand, although there are many local Facebook pages and WhatsApp groups where people can purchase gently used goods. Institutions, meanwhile, mandate that pupils dress in appropriate school uniforms bearing their brand or emblem.
