Over 185,000 trees were planted in the city last year by the Dubai Municipality, or 500 trees every day on average. By doing this, the authority increased the amount of green space in the city from 170 hectares in 2022 to 234 hectares.
The trees sprouted at 210 locations, which included parks, roadways, and nature reserves. Ghaf, Sidr, Sumar, Neem, olive, Samorova palm, Indian jasmine, and palm trees were among the local varieties. The Washingtonia, Bismarckia, Pseudobombax, Poinciana, Bougainvillea, Acacia farnesiana, and Darsina trees were among those recognized for their lush green leaves.
“Green Dubai is one of the key components of the municipality’s strategic efforts towards sustainability,” stated Dubai Municipality director-general Dawoud Al Hajri. This effort aims to improve the environment by protecting and optimizing the use of natural resources and elements and significantly reducing carbon emissions in the Emirate.”
