Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu has taken a decisive stance in the nation’s ongoing diplomatic row with India, requesting the withdrawal of approximately 100 Indian troops from the Maldives by March 15. This development was revealed by Muizzu’s Public Policy Secretary, Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim, to the press on Sunday.

The ultimatum for troop withdrawal was set during recent talks held with Indian officials in the Maldives. This move by President Muizzu comes just a day after his return from China, where he engaged in signing several significant agreements.

The request for troop withdrawal marks a critical point in the Maldives-India relations, underscoring the growing tensions between the two nations. The Maldivian President’s decision, especially following his visit to China, suggests a possible realignment of the Maldives’ diplomatic and strategic priorities.
