Dubai has recently taken a significant step in honoring the mother of its Ruler, Sheikha Latifa bint Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, by naming a new housing area after her. This move is part of a broader initiative in which the emirate has allocated 3,500 plots of land and 2,300 ready-to-move-in houses, amounting to a total value of Dh5.5 billion, for its citizens.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has a well-known affection for his mother. He has dedicated a substantial portion of his book, ‘My Story’, to her humanitarian efforts. The naming of the new housing area is a tribute to her legacy.

As part of the Dubai Social Agenda 33, a series of projects slated for 2024, Sheikh Mohammed emphasized the importance of family and social stability in government planning. He expressed that families form the nation’s cornerstone and are crucial for any development strategy, with the ultimate goal of enhancing the quality of life for citizens and securing a prosperous future.

The housing plots, covering an area of 40 million square feet, will be distributed to eligible Dubai citizens in February. This includes 2,700 plots in the newly named Latifa City and 800 in the Al Yalayis 5 area. Additionally, 2,300 new houses have been constructed for citizens in various locations such as Al Khawaneej 2, Al Aweer, Wadi Al Amardi, and Hatta.

This initiative is part of the ambitious Dh208-billion Dubai Social Agenda program, launched earlier this month by Sheikh Mohammed. One of the key goals of this program is to double the number of Emirati families in Dubai over the next decade, reflecting the emirate’s commitment to its citizens’ welfare and social stability.
