According to police on Saturday, dozens of drivers in Dubai who disregarded road safety laws during the National Day celebrations had their cars seized and punished.
Up to 4,420 dangerous infractions were noted, ranging from driving too fast and doing stunts on the road to staging unapproved parades and defying police orders. Ninety-four automobiles and motorbikes were seized.
Decree 30 on car impoundment stipulates severe penalties for violators, with fines for vehicle release amounting to Dh50,000, according to Maj-Gen Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, director of the Dubai Police’s General Department of Traffic.
The majority of the infractions were found in residential neighborhoods such as Jumeirah and Al Ruwayyah.
Some drivers broke the peace at the desert encampment by playing loud music on their car stereos and pulling pranks. Maj-Gen Al Mazrouei stated that some people were apprehended with unlawfully modified vehicles and unlicensed engine changes, while others impeded traffic.
