UAE sees spike in mental health cases as Gaza war haunts residents: Experts

The number of people seeking mental health services at facilities in the UAE has noticeably increased as a result of the intensifying Gaza War and the destruction caused by Israeli bombing in the Strip.

“At this time, a lot of businesses and people have reached out to us asking for help,” said Dr. Saliha Afridi, a clinical psychologist and managing director of The LightHouse Arabia.

An overpowering sense of secondary trauma and collective mourning is plaguing a lot of individuals. Some people who grew up in a war-torn nation are suffering from PTSD symptoms that have been provoked by a “conflict” in the area.”

There doesn’t seem to be any end in sight to the atrocities of a war that has claimed hundreds of lives as the Gaza crisis approaches its two-month anniversary. Following a six-day temporary ceasefire, terrible photos and videos of Israeli shelling of Gaza are still being shared on social media. Fighting ceased during this period, humanitarian aid was permitted to reach Gaza, and Hamas freed inmates in return for Israeli prisoners held by Palestinians.
