DUBAI: Over 130 global leaders will make national comments during the course of the next two days at the United Nations climate conference in Dubai.
Heads of state and government, such as Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan of the United Arab Emirates, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, King Abdullah of Jordan, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani of Qatar, and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, will be speaking at the high-level part of COP28.
“We’re taking significant steps with our own means to combat climate change, even though our historical responsibility of global greenhouse emissions is less than 1 percent,” stated Turkiye’s president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in his speech.
“We have doubled our emission reduction target for the year 2030 and plan to reach the net zero emissions target by the year 2053.”
We want to have mitigated 66.6 million tons of equivalent carbon dioxide by the end of this year, within this scope, he continued.
Our installed power producing capacity now includes a 55 percent renewables share. At this rate, Turkiye’s built renewable energy capacity now places it sixth in Europe and twelfth globally.
We are ranked fourth in the globe and first in Europe for geothermal energy capacity. Furthermore, Turkey is ranked ninth in the world and second in Europe for hydropower.
