We recently had the privilege of interviewing Hasan Wehbi, Founder of DUDI and a proficient industry leader. With a passion for empowering sports communities and bringing sports enthusiasts together, Hasan has perfectly instilled his 18 years of expertise in building his organization.
With DUDI, Hasan offers a social market workplace, letting users connect and chat based on their common sports interests. Further, this platform will assist users in booking sports venues, clubs, and studios, purchasing online tickets, and enjoying other amenities. As the Founder of the organization, Hasan Wehbi has been playing a crucial role in placing the organization in its current position. In this insightful interview, Hasan Wehbi shares his perspective on disruptors of this industry, following the embedded principles, paving through cultural differences, and incorporating social responsibilities as a business.
Spark Behind Venturing Into This Industry
We started the interview by asking, “What inspired you to start your company or become an industry leader?”
Hasan responds, “Having 18 years of experience in consulting and real estate domains, I always felt that I had aided developers and public sector agencies in developing residential and physical communities. However, our real communities need more attention, considering the rise in diabetes, overweight, mental health, and other health-related issues.
During COVID-19, I was among a team of advisors working with a highly influential government initiative in KSA related to housing, and it has been recorded that almost 46% of the global population had gained weight. That’s when I felt it was time to attend to that ‘inner voice’ and started drafting an initial sketch, which turned out to be the DUDI App.”
Major Disruptors
We were intrigued to learn more about the disruptors shaping the face of this industry. So, we asked, “What are the biggest disruptors shaping your industry today?”
He shared, “AI is, without a single doubt, the biggest disruptor; however, it is poorly utilized when considering our urban behaviors.”
Encouraging Healthy Lifestyle
We further asked, “What is the mission and vision of your company?”
He continued, “To become the leading urban tech platform, encouraging communities to be more active and fostering a healthy lifestyle.”
Embracing The Core Principles
To learn more about how Hasan ensures that the core ethics and principles are followed in his organization, we asked, “How do you ensure that these principles are embedded throughout your organization?”
“We built an easy-to-use platform that addresses all activities and sports, and we are gaining traction based on SDG principles, specifically, 3, 5, 11, and 17.” He replied.
Crucial Turning Points
At certain phases, every professional has to take a risk that later shapes their career path. So, we asked, “What was a pivotal decision or risk you took that impacted your career or company?”
He shared, “In entrepreneurship, when an idea sparks, one has to get going as soon as possible. This principle was reflected in DUDI and other startups I was previously engaged with.”
Attracting Bright Minds
Having the right team in the organization doubles the chances of success. So, we asked, “How do you attract top talent and foster a culture of collaboration?”
Hasan responds, “In business, ideas are cool and financial resources are great; however, the most precious resource is human capital. Once we realize that, we’ll be able to demonstrate a positive, healthy, open, and collaborative platform for work. I wouldn’t say there is a specific way to work with team members, but I strongly advise business owners to work closely with their team members, find time to laugh, face challenges, seek feedback, and listen to their concerns. No team size can suffice for the load of work, but only positive and motivated team members will help go the extra mile and achieve the unexpected.”
Setting DUDI Apart
To ensure success amidst competition, it is paramount to develop unique services and features. We asked, “How do you differentiate your company from competitors in the market? What unique value proposition do you offer to your customers?”
Hassan passionately responds, “There are sports tech platforms out there; however, we focus on the social aspect and provide a platform for all sports and activities. We are also positioned as an urban tech platform that goes way beyond a sports booking app in terms of technology, way of play, and complexity.”
Commitment Towards Sustainability
“What is your approach to sustainability and corporate social responsibility?”
Hasan replied, “We are committed to a better tomorrow by demonstrating 4 SDGs: 3, 5, 11, and 17. We are also preparing a long list of activities revolving around corporate well-being and sustainability, which will be revealed in Q4 2023.”
Navigating Through Global Markets
We were curious to learn how Hasan Wehbi ensures to adapt his organization amidst a multicultural environment and global markets. So, we asked, “How do you navigate international markets and cultural differences?”
He responds, “We thrive on the diversity of backgrounds, interests, and age groups. DUDI is for all genders, age groups, and nationalities. As for international markets, we do realize that each market has its own unique characteristics, and people have different preferences among different cities and geographies. We have noted a few points on our next target markets and we are ready to navigate with our local partners in such markets while maintaining our playbook’s guidelines as well.”
Building A Unique Platform
We ended the interview by asking, “What excites you about the future of your industry?”
“I believe we are building a unique platform and we are pioneering in what we do; I think we have an opportunity to shape the future of our industry, and this is very challenging and exciting at the same time.” Hasan concluded.
