When Dubai’s shopping extravaganza kicks off on December 8, it will come to life with everything from drone performances to Dubai’s skies luminous installations. Of course, there will be raffle draws, retail specials, and promotions during the 38-day Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF), but there’s much more to this festival than just shopping and huge prizes.
The 29th iteration of the festival, which runs from December 8 to January 14, will include pop-up marketplaces, culinary experiences, art installations, and athletic events.
Let light shine
Dubai Lights is a free public art exhibition that showcases lighting works, as the name would imply.
These larger-than-life figures will shed light on d3 and Al Seef. The figures, which were made by French designers David Passeg and and Moetu Batlle, represent the environment.
Walkable sceneries inspired by the largest tropical rainforest in the world will be available on Palm Jumeirah’s West Beach. These settings will include life-size installations of Amazonian parrots, complex floral artwork, and more.
The organizers claim that this year’s drone exhibition will be the “most sensational” that DSF has ever had. Twice a night, from December 10 to January 14, more than 800 drones will light up the sky over Bluewaters. At 8 and 10 p.m., the dancing drones will take to the skies to tell two stories: one about the Pearl’s significance to Dubai and the other about an Emirati space researcher who discovers a doorway that transports him to the future
