Authorities in the UAE remind people that assault carries a maximum sentence of one year in prison and a Dh10,000 fine.

Khaleej times

The Public Prosecution of the Authorities in the UAE used X, formerly Twitter, to inform citizens of the potential consequences of assaulting someone.

The authorities disclosed the potential legal consequences of two assault instances.

First, there will be a fine and jail sentence for anybody who violates the “physical integrity of another by any means and causes the assault to result in their illness or incapacity for personal work for a period exceeding twenty days”.

If the assault is not as bad as previously mentioned, the offender faces a fine of up to Dh10,000 and a potential one-year prison sentence.

The authorities went so far as to say that an attack will be deemed an aggravating circumstance if it causes a pregnant woman to miscarry.

This is in line with Federal Decree-Law No. 31 of 2021, which established the Criminal Code, namely Article 390.
