In the Gaza War, Palestinian Territories: On Friday, Israel and Hamas started a four-day ceasefire, during which hostages will be freed in return for detainees. This is the first significant pause in the fighting, which has killed thousands of people over the course of seven weeks.
Following protracted discussions, the halt started at 7:00 a.m. (0500 GMT), putting an end to the fervor that had been building since Hamas’s assaults into Israel on October 7.
According to Qatari mediators, an unknown number of Palestinian inmates from Israeli jails will be released later on Friday, after the release of 13 hostages held in Gaza.
At least 50 hostages are anticipated to be freed during the course of the four days, leaving an estimated 190 in the hands of Palestinian militant factions.
It is anticipated that 150 Palestinian detainees will be freed during that time.
The agreement represents a relief for Gaza’s population of over two million people from weeks of constant Israeli bombardment.
The battle, according to the Hamas authority in the area, has killed over 15,000 people so far and displaced countless others.
It is impossible to objectively establish the precise number of casualties, but it is evident that the violence has already stopped too late for many Israeli and Palestinian families.
According to Gazan resident Fida Zayed, whose son Udai, 20, was killed in a recent airstrike, “the living here are the ones who are dead.”
