Jordan claims to be bolstering its military presence at Israel's borders.

AMMAN: Jordan announced on Tuesday that its army has increased its presence near Israel’s borders and issued a warning that any attempt by Israel to compel Palestinians across the Jordan River by force would be considered a violation of the country’s peace agreement with its neighbor.

According to Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh, his nation will use “all the means in its power” to stop Israel from carrying out any transfer strategy that would result in the mass expulsion of Palestinians from the West Bank.

In Jordan, where a sizable community of Palestinian refugees and their descendants live, the Israel-Gaza war has reignited long-standing anxieties. A Jordan-is-Palestine solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has long been advocated by right-wing, ultra-nationalist hardliners currently serving in the Israeli administration.

Since the Islamist organization Hamas’ fatal raid into southern Israel on October 7, which resulted in the internal displacement of about 1.7 million of Gaza’s 2.3 million residents, Israel has been heavily bombarding the Gaza Strip.

According to official media, Khasawneh made reference to the 1994 peace accord with Israel when he said, “Jordan will consider any displacements or creating the conditions that would lead to it, as a declaration of war and constitutes a material breach of the peace treaty.”
