Philippine will bring up economic and environmental concerns with President Marcos while in Dubai.

On November 29, Philippine  President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. will land in Dubai to attend COP28 and pay a visit to the large Filipino population. The Philippine president will visit the nation and greet his kababayans (countrymen) for the first time in fourteen years.

Though his kababayans would like to hear from him on other matters, such as “effective response to economic issues besetting Filipinos back home, while underscoring the urgency for effective solutions towards a more environmentally-resilient Philippines,” Marcos is anticipated to take an active part in the UN Climate Summit.

As much as they would like to know the Philippine government’s position on mining, decarbonization, and the switch to renewable energy, they would also like to hear answers to the skyrocketing prices of commodities.

In order to understand the objectives and aspirations of the 600,000+ Philippine expats and to capture the spirit of the community, News Times spoke with community leaders, business owners, and long-term residents of the Philippines. The meeting took place on Wednesday, November 29, at the Dubai World Trade Center.
