According to experts speaking with Khaleej Times, there has been a “noticeable increase” in cold and flu cases in Dubai, especially among children, amid the recent periods of intense rain.
Acute respiratory infections, including the flu and Covid-19, have increased during wet weather, according to Dr. Adil Sajwani, a family medicine consultant at Mediclinic Parkview Hospital in Dubai.
The doctor continued, “There is a higher likelihood of transmission at home and in the office because residents typically limit outdoor activities during unstable weather.”
The majority of those affected are children under five, and older adults over 60 are reporting high fever, colds, coughs, and joint pains, according to Dr. Osama Elsayed Rezk Elassy, clinical assistant professor, consultant, and head of the division at the Thumbay University Hospital’s center for paediatrics and neonatology.
It is advised that parents keep a closer eye on their children’s health and look out for signs such as joint pain, high temperature, cold, and cough.
“It’s important to practice good hygiene and ensure that everyone has access to clean water,” Dr. Elassy stated. “Waterborne infections may also be a concern.”
