The United Arab Emirates has continued to expand its humanitarian response to devastating floods and landslides in Nepal, with total aid deliveries to the disaster-stricken country now surpassing 180 tonnes following a series of relief flights dispatched over the past two weeks.
The disaster began on August 26, when a glacier collapse and subsequent landslide triggered catastrophic flash flooding along the border between Nepal and the Chinese region of Tibet. The flooding and its aftermath have killed more than a thousand people, according to reports from the region, with thousands more left missing and extensive damage inflicted on homes, infrastructure and farmland across the affected areas.
A rapidly mobilised response
The UAE’s response was swift. Acting on the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the country allocated $10 million to support relief efforts in Nepal, delivered through the UAE Aid Agency as part of what officials have described as an air bridge for urgent humanitarian assistance.
The first UAE relief aircraft carried 83 tonnes of food supplies and shelter materials into Nepal, followed by a second flight delivering 45 tonnes of relief supplies, including essential food items, other necessities and power generators to support communities left without electricity. A third aircraft brought a specialised search and rescue team alongside a further 20 tonnes of aid, pushing the cumulative total to 148 tonnes at that stage. Subsequent flights have continued to build on that total, with deliveries now having crossed the 180-tonne mark.
Dubai Police join the search effort
Among the most significant elements of the UAE’s response has been the deployment of a specialised search and rescue team from Dubai Police, which travelled to Nepal as part of a broader emergency task force that also includes personnel from the UAE Joint Operations Command and the UAE Aid Agency. The team includes specialists in disaster relief, medical evacuation and first aid, and has been working directly alongside Nepalese authorities to support ongoing search operations in the worst-affected areas.
Officials overseeing the mission have said the relief effort is focused not only on delivering immediate emergency supplies, but also on supporting early recovery efforts and helping to restore a measure of stability to communities that have been devastated by the disaster. Aid convoys have been distributing food parcels and essential supplies directly to affected families, with particular attention paid to reaching people of all age groups in the hardest-hit regions.
A pattern of global response
The Nepal relief effort fits a well-established pattern of UAE humanitarian engagement that has seen the country respond rapidly to major natural disasters around the world in recent years, from earthquakes to flooding events across multiple continents. Officials have consistently framed this approach as reflecting a core national commitment to international solidarity and humanitarian action, positioning the UAE as one of the more active and well-resourced humanitarian responders among smaller nations globally.
Diplomats coordinating the Nepal response have stressed that the relief operation is being carried out in close coordination with Nepalese government authorities and international humanitarian organisations, to ensure aid reaches those who need it most efficiently and without duplication of effort.

With search and rescue operations continuing and the full scale of the disaster’s impact still being assessed, UAE officials have indicated that further aid deliveries remain likely in the days and weeks ahead. The $10 million relief package is intended to support not just the immediate emergency response, but also the longer and more difficult process of recovery that communities across the affected region now face, as they begin rebuilding homes, infrastructure and livelihoods in the aftermath of one of the deadliest natural disasters to hit the region in recent memory.
