During the UK Riots, British Expats Living in the UAE Altered their Travel Schedules and Contacted their Families

The riots in the UK, which are the worst disorder to hit England in 13 years, have many residents of the UAE alarmed and concerned. Some expats frantically called friends to ensure their safety, while others rearranged their travel schedules.

Surrey native and Briton Grant Randall expressed gratitude for his family’s safety. “My parents and sibling don’t live in the part of London where the riots have broken out,” he stated. “I’m hoping that the riots stay contained and don’t extend elsewhere. Such widespread unrest is not typical of the UK. People’s anger over the girls’ stabbing has escalated.

At first, false reports on social media claimed that the assailant was a Muslim seeking asylum. However, authorities later revealed that the suspect, a 17-year-old born in Wales, was the son of Rwandan parents, according to UK media. An asylum-seeking facility in northern England was set on fire by rioters on Sunday. Additionally targeted were mosques.

An entrepreneur in Dubai named Grant claims that the unrest has been building for some time. “Britain has hundreds and hundreds of illegal immigrants arriving in boats every day,” he stated. “The government is not addressing this unauthorised entry in any way. The attacker was not an immigrant, but this incident has been like a tipping point for all that anger to come to the surface. Unfortunately, it has gotten worse and turned into this.
