When two deputies tried to reach the first officer in what the police called an ambush shooting inside a home, a Florida sheriff’s deputy was shot and killed. Two other deputies were also injured. During a press conference held at the scene, Lake County Sheriff Peyton Grinnell stated that three deputies had been shot at a house in Eustis, Florida, on Friday night.
According to Grinnell, when police stormed the house to try and rescue a constable who had been shot and was stuck inside, they killed two suspects and injured a third. About 8:00 p.m., someone reported a disturbance to the police. A few houses down the street from the caller, two deputies discovered what appeared to be a kicked-in door. There was a lot of gunfire when the deputies broke into the house, according to Grinnell.
After being shot, one constable was trapped inside, and the other withdrew. Another constable was hit by “a hail of gunfire” as more officers showed up and organised a team to enter the house and get the constable, according to Grinnell. He said that the male constable who was shot first and was trapped inside did not make it out alive. The second constable was hospitalised with a shoulder wound, but his condition was stable. According to Grinnell, a third constable sustained multiple injuries to his armpit, groin and stomach and was undergoing surgery. Grinnell did not immediately identify the officers involved.
