Authorities declared on Saturday that on Sunday, July 7, in honour of the Islamic New Year (Hijri New Year), public parking will be free.
The seven-day paid public parking zones, which are marked by blue parking information signs and open Monday through Friday and on official holidays, are not covered by this exemption, according to the Sharjah Municipality
Authorities in the United Arab Emirates had earlier this week announced that government workers would get a paid day off in observance of the Islamic New Year. The Islamic calendar month of Muharram 1 has been declared a holiday by the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources. Private sector workers are also entitled to a paid holiday on July 7.
In addition, the nation’s cabinet has announced a list of holidays for 2024, which includes a celebration of the Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) birthday after Sunday. As everyone gets ready for National Day, this weekend will be the final official holiday of the year. However, the seven-day paid public parking zones are not covered by this exemption. According to the Sharjah Municipality, the seven-day paid public parking zones marked by blue parking information signs and open Monday through Friday do not fall under this exemption.
