UAE: Concerned About Summertime Vehicle Fires? Safety Advice From Experts

Experts are warning drivers to make sure their cars are in good condition to lower the risk of fire as temperatures in the UAE rise above 50ºC. This follows the recent emergence of social media videos showing cars catching fire.

Experts in both fire and automobiles have been pleading with drivers to be aware of the dangers and to take the necessary precautions to lessen the possibility of an unintentional fire. The majority of the time, factors other than extreme heat can start car fires.

“Drivers are advised to perform routine maintenance and inspections on their vehicles, as well as to monitor the levels of water and oil, in order to prevent fires. The fuel tank cap needs to be closed tightly, and smoking is not permitted close to a heated vehicle. Additionally, when refuelling, turn off the engine and, above all, keep a first aid kit and fire extinguisher inside the vehicle, suggested automotive expert Sony Rajappan.

Overheating of engines is a frequent issue. Elevated temperatures exert extra pressure on the engine, raising the possibility of an overheat and possible ignition. In addition, heat can cause fuel to evaporate, which increases the risk of dangerous vapour buildup and possible fires. Rajappan advised drivers to make sure they have the required fire extinguisher.
