The state government of Kerala announced on Thursday that Veena George, the minister of health, would make an immediate trip to Kuwait to organize help for the relatives of those killed and injured in the massive fire at a residential building in Kuwait.
The government led by Chief Minister Pinaray Vijayan announced an ex gratia of Rs 500,000 for the families of the deceased and Rs 100,000 for the injured in the June 12 incident in Kuwait’s city of Mangaf following a special cabinet meeting this morning. In the massive fire, over forty Indians lost their lives.
George will be accompanied, according to the Kerala government, by State Mission Director (NHM) Jeevan Babu, who will supervise the repatriation of the deceased’s bodies and organize treatment for State residents who were injured. The State Cabinet announced that the death toll from the fire in Kerala has increased to 19.
The Cabinet declared that two well-known Keralan businessmen, Yusuf Ali and Ravi Pillai, had communicated to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan their intention to donate Rs. 200,000 and Rs. 500,000, respectively.
The Cabinet continued that the two businessmen’s assistance would be given through Non-Resident Keralite’s Affairs (NORKA). Thus, each family will receive Rs 1.2 million in assistance.
