According to the 2024 Global Startup Ecosystem Report (GSER), which was released on Monday at London Tech Week and was produced by Startup Genome and the Global Entrepreneurship Network, Abu Dhabi has the fastest-growing emerging ecosystem in the Middle East and North Africa (Mena), with a 28% increase in ecosystem value.
The GSER analyzes data from over 4.5 million companies across more than 300 entrepreneurial innovation ecosystems and is powered by the world’s most quality-controlled dataset on startup ecosystems. In addition to ranking the Top 40 global ecosystems, emerging ecosystems, and an expanded regional ranking, it offers fascinating new insights and in-depth knowledge about startup trends worldwide.
Abu Dhabi is still the fastest-growing emerging ecosystem in the MENA region, according to the #GSER2024 report. The report was part of Startup Genome’s analysis of the UAE’s capital city and also included the expanding startup activity at Hub71, Abu Dhabi’s global technology ecosystem.
Compared to the period from July 1, 2019 to December 31, 2021, the ecosystem experienced 28% compound annual growth, or $4.2 billion in ecosystem value, between July 1, 2021 and December 31, 2023. Calculated as the sum of startup and exit valuations, ecosystem value is a metric for economic impact.
