Mediated Israel-Hamas Talks on Hostage Deal are Expected Next Week

Mediated negotiations between Israel and Hamas to free Israeli hostages held in the Gaza Strip are set to resume next week, according to an official familiar with the situation.

The decision to restart the talks, according to the source, who declined to be identified by name or nationality due to the sensitivity of the situation, came after the head of Israel’s Mossad intelligence agency met with the head of the CIA and Qatar’s prime minister, who has served as a mediator.

“At the end of the meeting, it was decided that in the coming week negotiations will open based on new proposals led by the mediators, Egypt and Qatar and with active US involvement,” according to a source.

Efforts to secure the release of more than 120 hostages kidnapped during Hamas’ October 7 assault on southern Israel as part of a ceasefire agreement have so far failed.

Both sides have blamed each other for the deadlock. Israel has stated that it will not accept Hamas’ demand for an end to the war, while Palestinians want Israel to release Palestinian prisoners. Israel has stated that it wishes to eliminate Hamas, which governs Gaza.
