Video: UAE drivers get free fuel cards for following traffic rules in Abu Dhabi

Several drivers were recently stopped by Abu Dhabi police, not to receive fines for moving violations but to receive free petrol cards instead. As part of an initiative to raise awareness for the ongoing Arab Traffic Week, Abu Dhabi’s Happiness Patrol officers returned to the roads, rewarding drivers who obey traffic laws.

According to Lt-Col Nasser Abdullah Al Saadi, head of the Security Media Department section, excellent drivers received gifts and road safety pamphlets in addition to Adnoc fuel cards. Lt. Col. Al Saadi urged drivers to adhere to traffic laws and avoid infractions for everyone’s safety.

He said that the goal of Arab Traffic Week, which runs until May 10, is to increase public awareness of the significance of following the law and putting away all distractions when driving to promote safety.

The Abu Dhabi Police had previously taken good drivers by surprise. The authorities have been giving out unique presents like TV gift sets and certificates to thank them for their efforts. Comparable programs are also periodically implemented in other emirates.

The Traffic and Security Patrols Directorate’s Maj Nasser Saleh bin Badouh Al Darmaki, head of the Happiness Patrol Team, stated that recognizing these drivers is a part of initiatives to improve “traffic positivity,” which can contribute to the safety of the roads.
