6.9 Million People Pass Through Abu Dhabi Airports in the First Quarter of 2024

Abu Dhabi Airports operates five airports in the Emirate and has announced outstanding passenger traffic figures for the first quarter of 2024. Between January and March 2024, the Abu Dhabi Airport network handled over 6.9 million passenger journeys, a significant increase of 35.6% over the same period in 2023 (when the number was 5.1 million).

The first quarter of 2024 saw a healthy upsurge in flight movements, with 61,737 movements recorded, indicating an 11.4% rise compared to the same time in 2023. This growth was driven by the strong global demand for passenger and commercial services.

Over 6.8 million travelers passed through Zayed International Airport alone, taking advantage of the excellent amenities and services in the recently built terminal. Its status as a premier hub is further cemented by notable increases of 26.6% in movements and 36.0% in passenger traffic.

Significantly, Turkmenistan Airlines returned in Q1 2024, and Hainan Airlines began service to Haikou, China, expanding Zayed International Airport’s airline database to include 29 regular scheduled airlines.

Along with the increase in passengers, Q1 2024 saw a notable rise in cargo traffic. All airports handled 162,000 tonnes of air freight, a significant rise of 25.6% over the same period in 2023, when the amount was recorded at 129,000 tonnes.

This show highlights the Emirate’s contribution to promoting international trade and business, which is fueled by a growth in the shipping of general cargo and specialized goods, including pharmaceuticals, temperature-controlled goods, and express deliveries.
