During the fasting month of Ramadan, around 270 Pakistani prisoners were freed from UAE jails.
The leaders of the seven emirates ordered the release of these individuals.
Over a hundred people have been released in the UAE capital during Ramadan, according to Samiullah Khan, the community welfare attaché at the Pakistani Embassy in Abu Dhabi. In an interview with Khaleej Times on Monday, Khan stated, “Those who have their passport and other travel documents have left the country; the process is underway for the people who don’t have their passports and travel documents.”
Most prisoners were freed first in Ajman and Sharjah and then in the other Northern Emirates. And 95% of them have been returned to their native country,” stated Imran Shahid, the community welfare attaché at the Pakistani Consulate General in Dubai.
During the holy month, people imprisoned for little offenses are typically released to rejoin their families, a gesture that reflects the UAE rulers’ desire to do so.
There are 1.8 million Pakistanis living and working in the United Arab Emirates, mainly in Dubai and the Northern Emirates. Remittances from the UAE rank among the top sources of foreign exchange, with over $2 billion sent there each month.
Shahid informed Khaleej Times that Pakistani missionaries in the United Arab Emirates frequently visit jails when the authorities bring up matters like airline tickets and travel paperwork. “Therefore, we try to release the prisoners and repatriate them as quickly as possible.”
