In the Indian Premier League on Friday, Aiden Markram’s half-century helped Sunrisers Hyderabad defeat Chennai Super Kings by six wickets comfortably.
Hyderabad restricted Chennai to 165-5 before cruising to 166-4 with 11 balls remaining. Chennai maintained their third-place standings after suffering back-to-back losses, while Hyderabad dropped to fifth due to a lower net run rate. Following Abhishek Sharma’s explosive 37 off just 12 deliveries, which gave the home team a rousing start of 46 runs inside the first three overs, came Markram’s 50 off 36 balls, his maiden fifty of the season.
Sharma hit three sixes and two boundaries off Mukesh Choudhary in the second over. However, in the third over, he was caught at backward point while attempting to slice Deepak Chahar over cover.
Markram and Head scored sixty runs for the second wicket before Ali returned to remove Markram and Shahbaz Ahmed. However, Hyderabad was ahead on the asking run rate by that point.
Rachin Ravindra, on 12, sliced a catch to Markram at mid-on in the fourth over, marking Hyderabad’s first significant breakthrough. Prior to this, fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar had not picked up a wicket in the first three games.
