According to the Department of Economy and Tourism, three car rental companies in Dubai were shut down in 2023–24 for breaking regulations regarding consumer protection rights.
Depending on the infraction, there are many categories of fines with a minimum of Dh10,000. The fine doubles each time the infraction occurs. But we don’t hold off until then. The offices of these companies close if the infraction is committed repeatedly. A director of consumer protection at the Department of Economy and Tourism in Dubai, stated that three automobile rental company offices had been closed: two in 2023 and one in the first quarter of this year.
The Department of Economy and Tourism’s Dubai Corporation for Consumer Protection and Fair Trade recently sent out a circular to all car rental companies requesting that deposits be returned within 30 days of the vehicle being returned.
Mousa counseled clients to confirm their written agreement with the business before renting a car, purchasing furniture, or using any other service.
