Residents in the UAE may soon have access to voice, messaging, and data satellite connectivity on their ordinary smartphones. Phones with satellite connectivity can be utilized in places with no cellular reception by connecting to a low-orbit satellite and communicating with other phones or networks.
UAE has teamed up with Al Yah Satellite Communications Company to implement its direct-to-device (D2D) strategy. The strategy, announced last month, aims to provide conventional cell phones with superior satellite capabilities and services and applications that can be accessed from anywhere in the world. This means that the agreement might provide e and UAE consumers with satellite access without the need for cumbersome gadgets.
The two businesses will collaborate on Yahsat’s planned low-earth orbit (LEO) D2D technology, which is intended to give “seamless connectivity” to conventional smartphones and provide “unprecedented” levels of connectivity and accessibility to consumers around the world.
The startup intends to provide audio and messaging services this year before introducing texting and IoT features to devices in 2025. These will be carried out utilizing Yahsat’s geostationary earth orbit (GEO) satellites.
