According to press reports, Roberto Cavalli, an Italian fashion designer who spent decades courting the world’s jet set with his flashy animal designs and python tastes, passed away on Friday at the age of 83.
After a protracted illness, the designer passed away at home in Florence, according to Italian news agency ANSA. “Dear Roberto, I know you will always feel your spirit with me even though you may not be physically here with us,” wrote Fausto Puglisi on social media, who has been Roberto Cavalli’s creative director since October 2020. “Your name will continue, a beacon of inspiration for others, especially for me,” said Puglisi.
The designer, who was born in Italy, rose to fame in the early 1970s for his animal designs and sensual aesthetic, which he continued to use throughout his lengthy career.
The Cavalli-named company sent its sympathies to his family. “His legacy continues to be a continuous source of inspiration,” said Sergio Azzolari, CEO of the fashion brand Roberto Cavalli.
