UN Security Council vote on Gaza is again postponed, with US support

US, United Nations According to diplomatic sources on Thursday, the UN Security Council has again postponed voting on a long-overdue resolution regarding the conflict between Israel and Hamas.

The United States, which has rejected several suggestions during the resolution’s development, announced that it was prepared to accept the resolution in its current version, coinciding with the postponement to Friday.

The most recent copy, which AFP was allowed to view, demands “urgent steps to immediately allow safe and unhindered humanitarian access, as well as for creating the conditions for a sustainable cessation of hostilities,” following days of delays. It doesn’t demand that fighting stop right away.

Reporters were informed by Washington’s UN ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield that “we can support the resolution if it is put forward as is.”
She refuted claims that the resolution draft had been softened.
“The Arab group fully supports the draft resolution, which is a very strong resolution,” the spokesperson declared.

The decision has been postponed multiple times this week due to diplomatic squabbles at UN headquarters in Manhattan, which have been occurring against the backdrop of worsening conditions in Gaza and an increasing death toll.
