The Foreign Ministry of Saudi Arabia said that the nation welcomed the adoption of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2720, reported Saudi Press Agency. The UN resolution called for an immediate, long-term, safe delivery of humanitarian aid and a ceasefire in Gaza.
The Foreign Ministry iterated its hope of the resolution being a step in the right direction towards finding an extensive halt to military operations and protecting civilians in Gaza amidst the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas. The October 7 attack opened a continuous counterattack from Israel that has killed more than 20,000 Palestinians and forced thousands of people to move away from their homes, health officials in Gaza reported.
The Foreign Ministry reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s stand on the requirement of international communities to “take responsibility and immediately put an end to the systematic violations perpetrated by the Israeli occupation authorities against unarmed civilians, including killing and forced displacement, in violation of international law and international humanitarian law.”
The conflict saw a ceasefire for a few days in the previous month through the mediation of Qatar that brought temporary peace and the release of hostages between Hamas and Israel.
