UAE Urges Work From Home Amid Unstable Weather Conditions

With unpredictable weather looming over the UAE, private sector companies have been strongly encouraged to enable ‘work from home’ arrangements for their employees on Monday, February 12. This decision comes in light of alerts issued by the weather department, warning of hazardous conditions.

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation emphasized the importance of implementing flexible working patterns to ensure the safety of employees, with particular attention to outdoor work. Companies are urged to adhere to occupational health and safety requirements and guarantee the well-being of workers commuting to and from outdoor locations.

In Dubai, government employees have been granted permission to work remotely on the same day. However, this exemption does not apply to roles that necessitate physical presence in the workplace.

Residents across the UAE have been cautioned about the adverse weather conditions, as six out of seven emirates experienced moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning on Sunday. The National Centre of Meteorology reported rainfall in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Fujairah, Ajman, and Ras Al Khaimah.

The Ministry of Interior highlighted the varying intensity of rain and winds, along with thunder, lightning, and even hail. These conditions have led to reduced visibility on roads, posing potential hazards for commuters.

In the education sector, private schools, nurseries, and universities have been advised by the KHDA to offer distance learning options to students on Monday. The authority emphasized the importance of considering the needs of parents, staff, and students amidst the inclement weather.

Government schools, on the other hand, have been instructed to conduct mandatory distance learning for students on Monday, taking into account the prevailing turbulent weather conditions.

As the UAE braces for continued unstable weather, authorities and organizations are prioritizing the safety and well-being of residents through proactive measures and flexible arrangements.
