The UAE called for immediate action to prevent starvation and reaffirmed its support for all initiatives to achieve a ceasefire and a return to civilian government, including formally urging all the warring parties to participate in the Jeddah talks process, in a significant statement outlining the UAE’s letter to the UN Security Council.
The UAE Mission at the UN praised Uganda’s and important African Union (AU) officials’ and regional leaders’ roles in their attempts to resolve the crisis. The leaders of the opposing factions have been urged by the African Union Peace and Security Council to convene immediately under the AU’s and the IGAOD’s auspices and to take part in the upcoming inclusive political dialogue process for Sudan, which will take place in Addis Ababa from July 10 to July 15, 2024. The UAE has joined this call.
The UAE called for immediate action to address the threat of famine in a statement released in New York. The UAE is still emphasising how crucial it is to permit and facilitate the urgent, unimpeded, and ongoing delivery of humanitarian aid to those in need among the civilian population.
“The international community needs to give Sudan a lot more help. The importance of responding to this crisis cannot be allowed to be delayed by rival groups that do not speak for the Sudanese people. The United Arab Emirates is still committed to collaborating with its international allies to reduce the likelihood of starvation and to motivate the combatants to participate constructively in a political process. In addition, the United Arab Emirates backs all efforts to put an end to this conflict and is adamant that everyone who wants to see peace negotiations succeed should do so.
