Ajman Police issued a warning to drivers to refrain from illegal swerving and to observe lane discipline in order to avoid a Dh1,000 fine and four black points. This reminder is a part of Ajman Police’s enhanced campaign to raise awareness of road safety, “Your Commitment Means Safety,” which was unveiled on Friday.
Authorities mentioned on social media that a number of things, including using dangerous tires on a vehicle and neglecting to do routine, thorough car inspections, can cause unintentional swerving. Authorities also reminded drivers to not drive over the posted speed limits, to avoid distracted driving, to use indicators when changing lanes, and to drive safely in the rain.
The deputy director of the traffic and patrols department of the Ajman Police, Lt. Col. Rashid Humaid bin Hindi, noted that abrupt swerving carries a Dh1,000 fine and four black points on a driver’s license in the United Arab Emirates. Among the top five infractions that contributed to 61% of all injuries and 71% of all fatalities on UAE roads in 2023 were sudden deviation and swerving.
The Ministry of Interior (MOI) reports that there were 352 road fatalities nationwide in 2022, an increase of 3% over the 343 recorded in 2022 but a decrease of 8% over the 381 recorded in 2021. Last year, Ajman saw 133 injuries and 11 fatalities as a result of traffic accidents.
