The Abu Dhabi Police (UAE) explained on Monday, January 29, that the “minimum speed” of 120 km/h, which would be enforced on Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Road in April 2023, applies to vehicles in both directions.
The speed limit on the highway is 140 km/h, and drivers who use the two fast lanes (the first and second lanes from the left) must travel at a minimum of 120 km/h.
“Driving a vehicle at a speed less than the minimum speed limit for the road” is a penalty for drivers who are caught breaking the “minimum speed” law. The police emphasized that offenders would be subject to a Dh400 fine.
Nevertheless, the third and last lanes are exempt from the “minimum speed” requirement. There are no limits on the usage of the third lane by slower-moving vehicles. The police emphasized that the minimum speed restriction does not apply to big vehicles, which are typically seen in the last lane on the road.
