UAE Leaders Mourn the Death of an Emirati Pioneer Who Worked Alongside Sheikh Zayed

Saeed bin Ahmed Al Otaiba’s contributions in Abu Dhabi laid the foundation for the country’s economy

President Sheikh Mohamed has expressed grief over the death of Saeed bin Ahmed Al Otaiba, who died today, May 29.

Al Otaiba was an Emirati pioneer who worked in several government agencies following the establishment of the UAE. His contributions in Abu Dhabi paved the way for the country’s economy.

The UAE President stated that he was a member of the “first generation who worked with the Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed, with sincerity and dedication”.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, also remembered the pioneer who was a “living memory of the capital,” in a statement posted on X.

Al Otaiba previously served as chairman of the Abu Dhabi Chairman of Industry and Commerce and was elected Chairman of the UAE Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FCCI).

President Sheikh Mohamed directed that a street be named after him, Saeed Bin Ahmed Al Otaiba Street.

Al Otaiba, born in 1916 in Abu Dhabi’s Al Dhahr neighbourhood, began his career as a pearl trader before moving on to trade commodities in various countries. Al Otaiba was also a well-known figure in colloquial poetry, adding to the country’s cultural heritage.
