The UAE Ministry of Education (MoE) has revealed a new global framework in collaboration with Unicef, with the goal of advancing climate education and improving teachers’ knowledge of climate issues.
The statement was given at the “COP28 Legacy Event: Empowering every teacher to get climate ready” at Expo City Dubai’s Greening Education Hub, which had as its theme “Legacy from the Land of Zayed.”
Senior educational officials, members from specialized educational organizations, and Dr. Ahmad Belhoul Al Falasi, Minister of Education, were present at the ceremony. Kitty Van Der Heijden, Deputy Executive Director Partnership – Unicef, was also present.
This relevant strategy is a part of the legacy of the Emirati presidency of COP28. The Emirati model was purposefully created with an Adapt & Adopt approach, allowing other countries to invest in the training of their teaching workforce and provide climate action education to every student by adopting it and customizing it to fit their own national systems.
By 2025, the framework hopes to increase the climatic competence of one million educators worldwide.
In order to cultivate a new generation of sustainability advocates, Dr. Al Falasi emphasized that educators are crucial in planting the seeds of climate change and environmental responsibility in students’ thoughts.
