India and the UAE are set to conduct a joint military exercise named ‘Desert Cyclone 2024’ in Rajasthan, scheduled from January 2 to January 15. ANI reports that this exercise aims to enhance interoperability and share knowledge and best practices in urban warfare.
The Indian Army, via its official social media handle, announced the inaugural ‘Desert Cyclone 2024,’ emphasizing its focus on collaborative learning and sharing in Urban Operations. This exercise is a reflection of the deep-rooted friendship between India and the UAE, a relationship that has flourished over centuries through cultural, religious, and economic exchanges.
The Ministry of External Affairs highlights several potential areas for bilateral defence cooperation, including the development and production of defence equipment, joint military exercises, sharing strategic information and doctrines, and technical collaborations in areas like Intermediate Jet Training.
Defence cooperation between India and the UAE has been growing, marked by significant advancements in defence training, supply of military inventory, and regular exchange programs. A notable highlight of this partnership was the first India-UAE Joint Air Forces exercise in September 2008 at Abu Dhabi’s Al-Dhafra base.
India’s active participation in the biennial International Defence Exhibition (IDEX) in Abu Dhabi further underscores the strengthening defence ties between the two nations.
