UAE: A Deaf Entrepreneur From Emirati Who Sells Bracelets All Over the Country

Hessa Al Mandoos creates and sells vibrant, handcrafted bracelets with the goal of spreading positivity.

The 37-year-old Emirati, who is hard of hearing, discovered her love for jewelry design after enrolling in a workshop for driven individuals. The workshop inspired the entrepreneur to launch her own company, “Jasmine Bracelets,” which are currently offered for sale at jewelry stores and gas stations.

“My designs are distinguished by the shape of a jasmine flower, which is how the name of my project was chosen,” Hessa explained. “I create the jasmine rose designs for the bracelets using pearl beads. I can make a lot of them in a few minutes with practice. In a week, I can create up to 60 bracelets.”

For her community, Hessa’s success is even more motivating. “Many people of determination have not been prevented by disability from excelling, and challenging their reality,” she stated to Khaleej Times.

The workshop was a component of the 2020 Ministry of Community Development’s Mashagel project. With an emphasis on the employment and rehabilitation of individuals with perseverance, the project intends to professionally and psychologically prepare people with perseverance for the workforce by offering them vocational training.
