An 11 km superhighway has been inaugurated connecting the islands, namely Al Reem Islands and Umm Yifeenah Island, and Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Street in Abu Dhabi. A member of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Office, Sheikh Khaled bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan inaugurated Umm Yifeenah Bridge in Abu Dhabi.
It is anticipated to create a quick trans-city between the two islands and Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Street( Salam Street), which is the main road in the city.
This project is built keeping in mind the growing traffic in the city which includes cycling and walking paths, Mike renting facilities, delivering sustainable transportation, and opportunities for the community to live an active and healthy lifestyle.
The Six-Lane superhighway is built by Aldar in partnership with the Department of Municipalities and Transport and can accommodate 6,000 journeys per hour in each direction.
Sheikh Khaled was escorted by Mohammed Ali Al Shorafa- Chairman of the Department of Municipalities and Transport, Mohammed Khalifa Al Mubarak- Chairman of the Department of Culture and Tourism,- Abu Dhabi and Chairman of Aldar, Saif Seed Ghobash, Secretary General of the Executive Council and Talal Al Dhiyebi, Group CEO of Aldar.
Al Shorafa said, ” We are proud to complete this landmark project, which reflects the vision of leadership for providing world-class infrastructure, enhancement of community welfare, and maintaining a business-friendly environment that ensures the best quality of life for citizens, victor’s and residents of the Emirates.”
The bridge is the first phase of the Mid-Island project, which is currently under design. It will link Al Reem Island, Saadiyat Island, Al Raha Beach, and Khalifa City. It will be completed by 2028 and include cycle tracks, walking tracks, and sustainable landscapes, delivering views of that area’s natural environment and the Abu Dhabi skyline.
Also, several sustainable measures have been implemented to conserve the natural environment in the surrounding areas of the project. Mangrove trees were planted to beautify the surroundings.
Tala Al Dhiyebi, Group CEO of Aldar, stated that Umm Yifeenah Bridge is another flagship project lined up in the development portfolio.
