Turkey-Syria Earthquakes: Indicating the authorities, CNN reported on Friday that the death toll in the deadly earthquake in Turkey- Syria has reached 21 051.
Vice President Fuat Oktay revealed on Thursday that around 17, 674 people have lost their lives and 72, 879 have been injured in Turkey.
As per the White Helmets civil rescue organization in Syria, around 3,377 individuals were killed, of which 2,030 were in rebel-held areas in the northwest, and 1347 were in government-controlled areas, which was later reported by the state media.
Anadolu Agency reported a three-month state of emergency to lift the rescue operations and aid efforts in the earthquake-hit areas and provinces of Turkey, which came into effect Thursday after the lawmakers’ approval.
According to the news report, earthquakes of magnitude 7.7 and 7.6 were felt in the province of Kahramanmaras, which was the epicenter. They were felt by 13 million people across the 10 areas, including Adana, Adiyaman, Diyarbakir, Gaziantep, Hatay, Kilis, Malatya, Osmaniye, and Sanliurfa. Also, the neighboring countries of Turkey, including Syria and Lebanon, felt the tremors.
Foreign Minister of Turkey, Mevlut Cavusoglu, said on Thursday that 75 nations and 16 international organizations have committed to aiding the country. He also stated that 6,479 rescue officials from 56 countries are working in the field.
CNN also mentioned Cavusoglu saying, “Teams from 19 more countries will be in our country within 24 hours”.
Global relief has been sent to Turkey and Syria after the disaster of Monday. The UAE has shipped around 22 aid planes and sent 640 tonnes of airlifting for the victims in both countries. The country has also set up field hospitals and sent rescue teams.
While organizing relief efforts, major humanitarian organizations have launched an appeal for urgent donations and specified ways to donate.
