To reduce traffic, Sharjah has installed 48 AI-powered traffic lights throughout the emirate.

According to SRTA Chairman Engineer Youssef Khamis Al Othmani, artificial intelligence technologies were implemented last month and were used to power traffic lights throughout the emirate. He also noted that 48 traffic signals were fully connected to the intelligent traffic system.

He emphasized that artificial intelligence was successfully resolving traffic problems involving no more than 30% of the system. Artificial intelligence is based on intelligent computing operations carried out through the system without any human intervention to find radical solutions to traffic congestion, he continued.

The SRTA finished some roads in ten residential areas in Sharjah City as part of the projects for paving internal roads in the emirate’s industrial, commercial, and residential areas to meet the residents’ needs for convenient access to and from the main roads and ensure flexible movement in these areas,” he said.

This occurred during a panel discussion hosted by the Sharjah Press Club, which is affiliated with the Sharjah Government Media Bureau (SGMB), as part of the Tawasol program. The panel included media representatives and SRTA officials.
