The WHO chairman and the president of the UAE spoke about Gaza's health issues.

President of the United States of America Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), was received by Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan on Tuesday.

Both sides discussed cooperation between the UAE and the WHO during the meeting on Tuesday at Qasr Al Bahr in Abu Dhabi. They emphasized the significance of enhancing international health cooperation, particularly in light of the serious effects of diseases and pandemics on global development, security, and stability.

His Highness received congratulations from the WHO Director-General for successfully holding the UN Climate Change Conference (COP28) in the United Arab Emirates at the end of last year. He said that the health sector had received significant attention during COP events for the first time in the conference’s history and that this had a beneficial effect on tackling health.

Dr Tedros Ghebreyesus conveyed gratitude for President Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed’s initiatives and efforts in battling diseases and epidemics worldwide and for the UAE’s support of the organization and its global health programs.
He also praised the UAE’s successful efforts to support the Gaza Strip with humanitarian aid and medical care, pointing out the UAE’s initiative to treat 1,000 children from the region and their families at UAE hospitals. This is on top of providing medical care to an additional 1,000 cancer patients and setting up a fully functional field hospital in the Gaza Strip.
