As the island nation considers extending the visa exemption status for Indian tourists past March, travel to Sri Lanka may continue to be simple. India is Sri Lanka’s leading source market and has been instrumental in helping the nation overcome its recent setbacks.
Free visas are provided for the first 30 days of stay under the trial project, unveiled last year and runs until March 31, 2024. Travelers will receive dual entry status upon arrival, and their 30-day stay in Sri Lanka is the maximum length of time for which their visa is valid.
The Minister of Tourism and Lands, Sports, and Youth Affairs, Harin Fernando, announced at a session at OTM 2024 that the program, which was first introduced in December 2023, will be extended in terms of visa exemption. The intention is to make Sri Lanka an easy-to-get-to travel destination for Indian travelers, enabling them to have a hassle-free vacation by just stepping into the nation.
