In addition to collecting medals for his outstanding academic achievements, Randolph Francis Palomar recently took the stage during his grade school graduation ceremony to celebrate life.
Eight years ago, after the adolescent Filipino had undergone a second round of chemotherapy for brain cancer, doctors had given him only a week to live due to acute liver failure. A malignant tumor measuring 6.8 cm was positioned in the middle of his brain.
While in the intensive care unit, Randolph also contracted pneumonia and experienced two seizures. (ICU). He was not responding to oxygen and had stopped breathing. With multiple intravenous (IV) tubes affixed to his body, his parents were left with no choice but to hope for a miracle.
Randolph, who turns 19 on July 3rd, attended online classes and received high academic honours from Shining Light Academy when he completed his grade school education. During the graduation ceremonies at Children’s City in Dubai’s Al Ajyal Theatre, he and his parents went up stage to receive a silver medal for finishing with a general average of 95–97% and a gold medal for the award for distinctive character. In addition, he was recognized for his excellence in the fields of mathematics, English, social sciences, campus journalism, and the Filipino language.
Cancer complications have left Randolph partially blind, but he claims that “it did not blind my spirit to live.” Though he occasionally stammers when speaking, he never fails to convey his emotions clearly and with joy as he shares his inspiring story of overcoming cancer.
