Sheikh Hamdan launches Experimental Modules to officially Launch the historic Dubai Reef Sustainability Program.

After introducing the pilot reef modules, Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai, officially launched the historic Dubai Reef project.

The largest marine reef development project in the world and a trailblazing move in Dubai’s attempts to promote ecological sustainability is Dubai Reef, a sustainable initiative by Dubai Can. To deploy 20,000 specially designed reef modules of varying sizes over four years, Dubai Reef is a significant undertaking for the city that will cover an astounding 600 square kilometers throughout Dubai’s waterways. The reef units’ carefully thought-out design will allow their volume to surpass 400,000 cubic meters.

After Ahmed Mohammed Bin Thani and contractors, HaejooX supported an initial proof of concept in 2021, the first modules of the Dubai Reef pilot project have already been activated. The recently established Dubai Environment and Climate Change Authority (DECCA) will collaborate closely with the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) to guarantee the project’s completion. His Excellency Bin Thani will continue to be a major player in advancing the Dubai Reef project and bolstering the emirate’s advocacy for environmental preservation and climate action as Director General of DECCA. In the Dubai Reef project, DET is joined by DP World, Dubai Chambers, Nakheel, the Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation, and Emirates as strategic partners.
