At a single intersection, Sharjah has constructed four new mosques with classic Islamic architecture, giving the city an authentically Arab and Islamic appearance. The mosques surround the well-known square, which was formerly known as Al Khan Bridge, and are tucked in between the residential towers.
Each of them has a total land area of 400 square metres and can accommodate 1,300 worshippers, both male and female. They are situated at one of the important squares on Sharjah-Dubai Road that connects the emirate’s industrial area with Jamal Abdul Nasir Street, Al Wahda Street, Al Khan, and Al Nahda.
It’s interesting to note that all four mosques have identical architecture, including four domes and 60-meter-tall minarets, which provide residents, tourists, and snappers with breathtaking aerial views. The four caliphs of Islam—Abu Bakr Al Siddiq, Omar bin Al Khattab, Othman bin Affan, and Ali bin Abi Talib—have inspired their names.
To draw more visitors, Sharjah actively promotes its Islamic and Arab cultural heritage both domestically and abroad. Some of the most exquisite mosques in the nation, including Sharjah Mosque on Kalba Road and Al Noor Mosque on the Buhairah Corniche, can already be found in the emirate.
The mosques would serve thousands of worshippers, especially during the summer and the holy month of Ramadan, when mosques are brimming with worshippers. As a result, residents in the neighbourhood applauded the initiative.
